The Consultation
The little chat you have with your stylist before the cutting begins is possibly the most important part of the entire process. It's where you and your stylist decide what kind of cut and style you want. The Client Consultation is where most of the stress and confusion arise, especially when the stylist is new to your hair. You can never ask enough questions. Be sure to explain the likes and dislikes you have with your hair, any changes in color, texture, moisture/oil, shedding, split ends and so on. Bring pictures of hair styles you like and be open to the advice of your stylist as to whether it will work with your hair. Occasionally some may find their hair wont let them do certain things. For example; a cowlick or a widows peak can make side bangs a huge frustration. Or, that one boy who brought a picture of an anamie cartoon : ) But don't worry if the consultation is done properly you should feel comfortable from the first cut to the last. Oh, one other thing, if you don't feel like things are going quite right during the cut or style, don't be afraid to chime in with more questions or concerns. Your stylist should be able to explain every action.
The Shampoo
Your stylist may shampoo your hair right after the consultation or in between cutting depending on what the desired result is. The Shampoo and Conditioner your stylist chooses to use for your hair will assist in the ease of the Cut and Style as well as temporarily improve the health of you hair. So, make sure to ask your stylist why they chose the shampoo and conditioner they used because if it makes things easer for them, daily use will make things much easier for you, both in your daily styling and in future visits to the salon, as well as in the condition and health of your hair over time. Hair has different needs throughout your life and
The Hair Cut
The Blow Dry or Blow-out, and Style
Of course this is the core of what a stylist does because cutting is only the means, the style: the ends. Which is why the style should be discussed before cutting. You may just want a "trim" but, your stylist will use totally different techniques depending on the style you want after the "trim". Therefore if you want volume, texture, voluptuous curls, the sleek flat-ironed look, and you want to be able to do at home, then be sure to mention it first so your stylist may cut it accordingly and teach you the proper way to achieve the desired look. can change dramatically due to changes in diet, physical health, pregnancy, age, intentional and unintentional Hair Color and Chemical changes, sun exposure, seasonal and environmental changes, personal hair styling habits and much more. It makes sense that the shampoo and conditioner you need will change too. If you feel like the products your using aren't giving you the same results it might be time to change products.
Your stylist will use their knowledge and skills to achieve your desired look. The cutting may be the first and last thing the stylist does, and its not uncommon to texturize, blend and trim bangs after the blow dry. There is such diversity as to technique between stylists and styles that there is really no point going into detail here. Everyone has their own way of cutting that works for them and their clients.
important part if the cutting service and if the hair isn't styled in the salon, there is really no way to know if it's going to look good when you style it at home. Stylists love hair products and spend large amounts of time and money finding the right products for different styles and hair types. Most of the products the stylist uses in the salon are also available for purchase. Don't be afraid to ask the stylist to narrate what she is doing and why, so you can learn how to recreate your style at home.
